One thing I've been thankful for this summer is the afternoon rain (or hail).

After a bit of structured chore & "school" time in the morning the kids seem to scatter for the day. This is frustrating for me because the kids tend to become off-center; tired, worn out, grumpy & less willing to work things out. To help alleviate these afternoon difficulties, we instigated a lunch break. Most days, no matter what was happening, the kids came in for lunch at 12:30 and couldn't play again until 2:00. It was hard work but it paid off as the kids seemed more restful, helpful & together in the afternoons.
The afternoon rain storms also served to bring us all back to center. Many times we enjoyed the storm safe inside our home, together. Of course, many times we just had to feel the rain on our skin!
(The rain also gave our garden a drink when we forgot to water.)
