Several months ago I had big plans for my May.
Tax season would be over.
Kids would still be in school for a few weeks.
Perfect for a some much needed improvement projects...
Then May came.
And Paul's workload changed.
And Parker did a flying Superman off the trampoline.
And Dallin's finger was stepped on.
And Kyralyn saw the ENT.
And I went to the dentist.
So now it is the end of May and the dynamic of my projects changed from improving to surviving.
For example: Kyralyn's room won't be getting painted & decorated but somehow I am managing to keep the dishes washed and the counter cleaned off for the next meal. (Don't ask about the laundry!)
The family pictures, family motto & quote board won't be created or hung on the walls, but the kitchen table will be cleaned off by dinnertime tonight!
The files won't be getting sorted & shredded but Dallin will be packed & ready for a backpacking campout tonight!
The lease on our outdoor storage unit (the garage) won't be ending, but Parker will get to swim in his waterproof cast, Dallin will avoid surgery on his finger if he keeps it in the splint & doesn't play basketball (although I suppose this is death itself), and Kyralyn's adenoid, vocal chords & reflux issues warrant a visit to a pediatric gastroenterologist & a dairy-free diet.
In the beginning, I thought May would flow through like the springtime rain & breeze.
Leaving beautiful flowers in the end.
I suppose the flowers are here. And they are beautiful.
But when I woke up on a Saturday morning early in the month to part of our big tree laying across the backyard and more roof shingles scattered around it, I should have realized that the winds of May would not be gentle!
Even through this all, I do feel an incredible amount of gratitude to my Heavenly Father.
We have much to be thankful for.
The winds have blown but we have been safe & able to handle the damage.
Paul has been an incredible support even from 800 miles away.
Dallin has been helpful and obedient (remember our attempt at a backyard campout in the wind?).
Parker has been my rock for enjoying the moment (thanks for cleaning up the spray-can-whipped-cream battle).
Kyralyn's frequent reminders that "you're the best Mom ever" or "you make my day, Mom" to go with her endless hugs offer much needed encouragement.
And many other family members & friends have offered their support & love.
Like I said, the flowers are here and they are beautiful.
